  • #NWAis15 Our first live events in 2009 were in collaboration with Sound Summit, co-presenting three showcases at This Is Not Art (TINA) in Newcastle October 2009 at Arthive, Renew Newcastle Church and the Festival Club. . Across nine hours, eleven bands played live, representing New South Wales, Northern Territory, Victoria and Queensland, including Go Genre Everything, Polyfox And The Union Of The Most Ghosts, Brutal Hate Mosh, Lucia Draft, Alps, kyü, Moonmilk, Castings, Blastcorp, Gugg and Holy Balm, in a program curated by Eliza Sarlos and Grant Hunter. . Mess and Noise said: “Clicking their drumsticks together like little girls in a schoolyard clapping hands, kyü channel Björk, Cocteau Twins, M.I.A and The Lion King with blissfully non-derivative innocence.   • #NWAis15 : Our first compilation was released in 2009, aptly titled Volume One, featuring music from CLINGTONE, ANONYMEYE, LESSONS IN TIME, TELAFONICA, PIMMON, KYU, BATTLESNAKE, TOM SMITH, RAVEN, LOOM, INQUIET, PREDRAG DELIBASICH and BRUTAL HATE MOSH. Cover artwork was by Adrian Elmer @ajebec . We said: “In borrowing (and expanding) ‘new, weird’ terminology, we hope to shrink the notion of distance between innovative Australian artists and their international compatriots; between the dot points on the vast map of our own land and between definitions of genre, taste or style.” .   • Monica Brooks @monicamonicaman contributes the track ‘Morph For Puddles’ to our recent ‘Worlds Only World’ compilation, a piano improvisation based on pop song chord changes. She notes: “It was recorded in response to a call for tunes to highlight solidarity with Palestinians. The world balks in witnessing the horror of the genocide of Palestinians, while simultaneously watching the complicity and inaction of our supposed leaders whom serve to protect a global corporatocracy instead.” Monica Brooks is a composer, improviser, and sound artist, hailing from the Blue Mountains. Over the last twenty years she has developed her connection to improvisation as a compositional methodology. Her artistic interests are occupied by landscapes and conservation; maps, and the idea of ‘Hjemfalden’, or, as can be reconceived as belonging, landscapes, loss and love. Brooks has been involved with projects such as Great Waitress with Magda Mayas and Laura Altman, West Head Project with Jim Denley and Dale Gorfinkel, composition for choirs in Sydney, and scores for short films. Her current projects rely on solo piano for compositions, and folk harmony in drone music using accordion, often in churches as a reverberant community spaces.   • Wyrd thy self! - “The word weird has its root in the Anglo Saxon word, wyrd, which roughly boils down to the action of controlling one’s fate. To be weird, is to control one’s fate, rather than let society determine your place and fate.   • Jenny Trinh is a Western Sydney artist who performs solo as Wytchings @wytchings. For our new compilation, ‘Worlds Only World’, she contributes ‘Crop Circles’, a rework of a demo made for her first EP ‘Neptune’ back in 2019. She describes it as “a track about walking through the rain at night and mistaking the streetlights for something from the great unknown!” Creating dreamy, film-inspired sounds evoking that of space and water, Jenny has collaborated with artists like Red Rey, Saskia Ellis & Jada Narkle to create accompanying soundscapes for their movement pieces, which have been showcased at Soft Centre, Sydney World Pride, Yirramboi Festival and Marrugeku. In addition to that, she sound designed Liquid Homelands, a queer, experimental radio project on FBi Radio’s Race Matters. In addition to her solo work, she is in the band Heart Armour with two longtime friends Kashif (Kash Bhai) & Zac (roomers), and is a member of compilation curators Worlds Only @w0rlds0nly. Monica Brooks @monicamonicaman contributes the track ‘Morph For Puddles’ to our recent ‘Worlds Only World’ compilation, a piano improvisation based on pop song chord changes. She notes: “It was recorded in response to a call for tunes to highlight solidarity with Palestinians. The world balks in witnessing the horror of the genocide of Palestinians, while simultaneously watching the complicity and inaction of our supposed leaders whom serve to protect a global corporatocracy instead.” Monica Brooks is a composer, improviser, and sound artist, hailing from the Blue Mountains. Over the last twenty years she has developed her connection to improvisation as a compositional methodology. Her artistic interests are occupied by landscapes and conservation; maps, and the idea of ‘Hjemfalden’, or, as can be reconceived as belonging, landscapes, loss and love. Brooks has been involved with projects such as Great Waitress with Magda Mayas and Laura Altman, West Head Project with Jim Denley and Dale Gorfinkel, composition for choirs in Sydney, and scores for short films. Her current projects rely on solo piano for compositions, and folk harmony in drone music using accordion, often in churches as a reverberant community spaces. Curated by ‘transient ambient’ group Worlds Only @w0rlds0nly, the ‘Worlds Only World’ compilation is out now on all platforms. We encourage you to stream / download and donate at Bandcamp (link in bio). Jenny Trinh is a Western Sydney artist who performs solo as Wytchings @wytchings. For our new compilation, ‘Worlds Only World’, she contributes ‘Crop Circles’, a rework of a demo made for her first EP ‘Neptune’ back in 2019. She describes it as “a track about walking through the rain at night and mistaking the streetlights for something from the great unknown!” Creating dreamy, film-inspired sounds evoking that of space and water, Jenny has collaborated with artists like Red Rey, Saskia Ellis & Jada Narkle to create accompanying soundscapes for their movement pieces, which have been showcased at Soft Centre, Sydney World Pride, Yirramboi Festival and Marrugeku. In addition to that, she sound designed Liquid Homelands, a queer, experimental radio project on FBi Radio’s Race Matters. In addition to her solo work, she is in the band Heart Armour with two longtime friends Kashif (Kash Bhai) & Zac (roomers), and is a member of compilation curators Worlds Only @w0rlds0nly. The ‘Worlds Only World’ compilation is out now on all platforms. We encourage you to stream / download and donate at Bandcamp (link in bio).
